The McEwan Group | Toronto, ON
The new McEwan Foods location at Yonge and Bloor in the heart of Toronto’s vibrant Yorkville neighbourhood is the third location of Celebrity Chef Mark McEwan’s gourmet grocery retail store. This new food hall is approximately 17,000 sq. ft. Walking in off the street level a grand lobby with a wrapping vinyl wallcovering with colour-blocked sections and macro food photography is the first impression patrons have in the space. To encourage movement to the lower level where the retail and food is displayed, large scale black wire chandeliers cascade down the escalator and projecting glowing globe chandeliers line the pathway to the elevator. On the lower level each area has its own personality, from the café, pastry, pizza, produce, juice, meat, fish, cheese, prepared food, and dining. The continuous use of white, grey and black in unique applications from patterned tile, metal screens and light fixtures creates a contemporary aesthetic and ensures the quality and luxury food products are the main focus. Grounded by light wood finishes the space, while modern and exciting, is also comfortable. The entire lower level is crowned with a dramatic McEwan purple colour to ensure the space is branded to the client and creates added interest.
